Jurassic World: Rebirth – Wild Roar Maiasaura

Maiasaura peeblesorum changed how palaeontology understood dinosaur behaviour. Discovered by Jack Horner in Montana's Two Medicine Formation in 1978, it was the first dinosaur proven to have raised its young in nests — the name means "good mother lizard" for exactly that reason. Horner's excavation of Egg Mountain revealed nesting colonies of thousands of individuals, with juveniles found at sizes too large to have just hatched, confirming that adults actively fed and protected their offspring rather than abandoning eggs at laying. A hadrosaur with a broad, flat bill and a robust body reaching up to nine metres, Maiasaura was a migratory herd animal that moved across the Late Cretaceous floodplains of what is now North America in numbers that rivalled the great mammal herds of the Pleistocene. Its discovery fundamentally shifted the scientific consensus on dinosaur parental care, warm-bloodedness, and social complexity — and a fragment of Maiasaura bone was even carried aboard the Space Shuttle in 1985, making it the first dinosaur in space. The Wild Roar release captures the animal's scale and herd energy with its sound and movement feature.
