Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – Epic Evolution Danger Pack Lophostropheus

Lophostropheus airelensis is a Late Triassic to Early Jurassic theropod from the Normandy region of France, and its taxonomic history is almost as interesting as the animal itself. For decades its fossils were assigned to Liliensternus, a better-known early theropod, before a 2007 reanalysis by Ezcurra and Cuny established it as a distinct genus — making it one of the few dinosaurs to have been formally renamed in the 21st century based on a re-examination of existing material rather than new discoveries. It lived right at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, a period of mass extinction that wiped out most of its contemporaries and cleared the ecological space that allowed dinosaurs to dominate the Jurassic. Lophostropheus was a slender, bipedal predator estimated at around five to six metres, built for pursuit rather than brute force, and its survival across the boundary event makes it palaeontologically significant as a transitional theropod. Its appearance in the Chaos Theory Danger Pack assortment is one of the more obscure species choices in the line — a genuine deep-cut for anyone who follows theropod taxonomy.
