Mussaurus — meaning “mouse lizard” — is a Late Triassic sauropodomorph from Argentina, and one of palaeontology’s most fascinating early dinosaur discoveries. When first described in 1979, the fossils were so small that scientists initially thought they had found a miniature species — only later realising the specimens were hatchlings and juveniles. Adult Mussaurus were considerably larger, making it an early forerunner of the giant long-necked sauropods that would dominate the Jurassic period. Its inclusion in the Hammond Collection True FX line reflects the franchise’s commitment to showcasing the full breadth of prehistoric life, not just the headline predators.
